Jonathan Patke, Manny Diaz are familiar with each other as Jonathan Patke worked for Diaz on three previous defensive staffs, most recently at Miami from 2016-21, There Patke served as a quality control analyst for two seasons (2016-17) before being elevated to the linebackers coach his final four years (2018-21). Additionally, Miami finished ranked in the top-30 in punt return defense in two of his three seasons as the special teams coordinator.

Following coaching at Miami Jonathan Patke was Defensive Coordinator at Incarate Ward in 2022 season before becoming Defensive Coordinator Texas State. In 2022 season at the University of Incarnate Word,Jonathan Patke helped the Cardinals earn a final national ranking of No. 4 and a Southland Conference championship.
