Though, unlike Bobby Hurley Jon Scheyer ‘s NBA Career was short lived as Jon Scheyer suffered, sustained an eye injury while playing summer league for the Miami Heat as he suffered a retinal tear and traumatic optic nerve avulsion, both vision-threatening injuries. His plans quickly changed as he was told he may not be able to play basketball again due to permanent vision loss in his right eye. Scheyer discusses his experience during that time and expresses his gratitude towards Terry Kim, MD, Duke Cornea Division Chief and Duke Men's Basketball team eye doctor who flew to Chicago the very next day to ensure that he would receive the best care possible. "If that is not an example of Duke being a life-time decision, then I don't know what is," said Scheyer. While his plans changed, he was able to get into coaching at a young age and gain the experience that led him to his new role as the 20th Head Coach for Duke Men's Basketball.

Following former Duke guards Duke players Bobby Hurley, Jon Scheyer opposing each other as Head Coaches following Duke coming out on top with 103 -47 win former Duke guard current Arizona State Head Coach Bobby Hurley had this to say!
I’ve been here long enough to know, from my four years,“that what just happened has happened before, and it could happen to me, and it did.”
Following former Duke guards Duke players Bobby Hurley, Jon Scheyer opposing each other as Head Coaches following Duke coming out on top with 103 -47 win over Arizona State former Duke guard current Duke Head Coach Jon Scheyer had this to say about how his team played defensively!
“Much improved,”
“Between the two games, I thought we were way more connected. We made some switches from some things I didn’t like. I didn’t think I coached him as well as I could have in that first game with how we were playing ball screen defense and just our pickup. I thought we were just soft overall. And I thought this game that the physicality, I think it shows with the points in the paint, obviously the rebounding, those two stats, I think a reflection of that, and then they just busted their butts.”
