E.J. Liddell hit a mid-range jumper to put the Buckeyes (5-2) up 69-66 with 15 seconds remaining, Duke (7-1) pushed the ball down the floor and found freshman Paolo Banchero for a potential game-tying three-pointer. Banchero's three rimmed out and the rebound was grabbed by Cedric Russell, who was quickly fouled and made a pair of free throws at the other end to secure the Ohio State victory.

Although Duke was able to maintain the lead for the majority of the second half, they found themselves in foul trouble down the stretch. Graduate student Theo John fouled out of the game with 6:26 left, while Banchero, Wendell Moore Jr., Jeremy Roach and Mark Williams each played with four over the closing minutes.
