Duke, Temple previously faced, opposed one another in the Independence Bowl in 2018 in Shreveport Louisiana.

>After starting the game on offense with a quick three-and-out, the Owls set up on defense. On the third play of the drive, Duke completed a 62-yard pass to get all the way to the Owls' three yardline. The Blue Devils eventually punched it in on a QB keeper to take the first lead of the game 7-0.
>Isaiah Wright took the ensuing kickoff 74-yards to set up the offense on the Duke 26 yardline. After converting a third down on a pass from QB Anthony Russo to WR Brodrick Yancy, Russo took the ball 15 yards on a read-option into the endzone to even the score 7-7.
