Matthew Stafford Made History Monday Picking Up His First NFL Playoff Win As He, Los Angeles Rams Beat Arizona Cardinals 34-11 In Wild Card Game In Los Angeles
Matthew Stafford was the first overall pick out of the University Of Georgia in the 2009 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions!
There he played quarterback for 13 seasons where the Detroit Lions made the Wild Card three times and lost all three times.
Though, after 13 seasons in Detroit Matthew Stafford was traded to the Los Angeles Rams for Jared Goff, three draft selections in March of 2021.
That trade turned out for the better because Matthew Stafford made history Monday night picking up his inaugural playoff win in a 34-11 Los Angeles Rams win over the Arizona Cardinals in the Wild Card Game in Los Angeles California. In the Wild Card Game Matthew Stafford completed 13 of 17 pass attempts for 202 yards and two touchdowns – connecting with Odell Beckham Jr. (four receptions, 54 yards) and Cooper Kupp (five receptions, 61 yards) on those scores – and also rushed six times for 22 yards and a touchdown.

I'm just excited for our team to get the win,What a team effort. Our defense played outstanding tonight, special teams basically set up a score with [punter] Johnny [Hekker] pinning them down there, did a great job on field goals. And we were good enough on offense to score some points and come away with the win. Just happy to be moving on."

Linebacker Kenny Young and defensive lineman Aaron Donald both authored strong performances for Los Angeles' defense. Young posted a team-high 10 total tackles, plus one sack, one QB hit and one forced fumble, while Donald had three total tackles, one sack-fumble and one pass breakup. The sack moved Donald into a tie with defensive end Leonard Little for most career sacks in Rams franchise history (87.5).
