In their 62-22 loss to Louisville Louisville used a high-powered offense to defeat Duke, 62-22, on Thursday night at Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium.

The Cardinals found the end zone on nine of their 10 drives throughout the game. Duke compiled 458 yards of total offense but went just 4-of-13 on third down conversions to halt drives.

A Charlie Ham 22-yard field goal cut a Cardinals' early 7-0 lead down to 7-3 with a little less than six minutes remaining in the opening quarter. Unfortunately, the visitors responded with four touchdowns over four of their next five drives to take a 35-9 lead into the break. Ham added another two field goals for the Blue Devils during that stretch, a 28- and 26-yarder, to tie his career high in field goals made during a game.

Louisville added another touchdown midway through the third quarter to create a 42-9 gap between the teams. Duke tried to spark a rally when Jalon Calhounran it in from six yards out, but another score by the Cardinals ultimately put the game out of reach.

Calhoun's run was his second carry of the season and his first career rushing score. He added seven catches for 55 yards.

Starting quarterback Gunnar Holmberg went 19-of-34 for 176 yards. Rookies Riley Leonard and Jordan Moore also saw game action under center. Leonard finished his day an immaculate 13-of-13 passing for 99 yards. He also chipped in with seven carries for 70 yards and his second career rushing score.

Running back Mataeo Durant finished with 78 yards on 13 carries and is just 64 yards away from breaking Duke's single-season rushing record.

Senior Jake Bobo tallied his third 100-plus yard receiving game after compiling 102 yards on nine catches. The North Andover, Mass., native now has 1,409 career receiving yards to his ledger.

Leading the defensive unit was redshirt junior Shaka Heyward and sophomore Jaylen Stinson with nine and six tackles, respectively. Redshirt sophomore R.J. Oben added another sack to his record this season and now had 4.0 on the year.

On special teams, sophomore Isaiah Fisher-Smith blocked his third career punt on Louisville's second drive of the game.

In Miami’s 38-26 win over Virginia Tech Defensive end Zach McCloud, who entered the game with a team-high five sacks, recorded his first strip-sack of the season and got to wear the Turnover Chain one last time at home.

Receiver Charleston Rambo had a game-high seven catches and 116 yards. The always-reliable Lou Hedley, a Ray Guy Award semifinalist, averaged 41.2 yards on his four punts, with two of those landing inside the 20-yard line. And defensive tackle Nesta Jade Silvera and striker Gilbert Frierson were both among Miami’s defensive leaders with six tackles each.

Van Dyke, a second-year freshman, completed 19 of his 33 passes and threw for 357 yards and three touchdowns. He’s just the first quarterback this season to throw for more than 300 yards against the Virginia Tech defense.

Second-year freshman Jaylan Knighton scored on a pair of short touchdown runs. Freshman receiver Brashard Smith scored on a 75-yard touchdown and junior Will Mallory opened the scoring for Miami with a 9-yard touchdown grab on the Hurricanes’ opening possession.
