In Duke Head Coach Jon Scheyer's Return To Sideline Tuesday Night Folllowing Being Sick 4th Ranked Duke Extended Winning Streak To 9 Games With 76-47 Win Over Pittsburgh In Durham
On Saturday when Duke was playing at SMU ahead of the game Stephen Wiseman Of News & Observer broke the news that Duke Head Coach Jon Scheyer wouldn’t be coaching on the sideline because he was suffering from flu symptoms and was unable to travel Friday on the team charter to Dallas. He remained too sick to travel Saturday morning, which meant associate coach Chris Carrawell coached the Blue Devils (12-2, 4-0 ACC) in a key ACC game against SMU (11-3, 2-1 ACC).

As a team offensively Duke shot 50% on field goals 55% on 3 pointers 72.2% on free throws all 5 starters scored in double figures. Khaman Maluach was 4-5 on field goals 0-1 on 3 pointers , 3-4 on free throws to go along with 8 rebounds, 1 block , 11 points. Cooper Flagg was 7-11 on field goals , 1-2 on 3 pointers 4-6 on free throws to go along with 10 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal , 1 block , 19 points . A couple of those 19 points came when he dunked on Pittsburgh’s Jorge Diaz Graham! Kon Knueppel was 5-12 on field goals , 4-7 on 3 pointers , 3-4 on 3 pointers , 2-2 on free throws to go along with 4 rebounds, 1 assists , 17 points. Tyrese Proctor was 4-8 on field goals , 3-4 on 3 pointers , 2-2 on free throws to go along with 4 rebounds, 4 assists , 13 points. Sion James was 4-10 on field goals , 2-2 on 3 pointers to go along 7 rebounds, 4 assists , 2 blocks, 10 points.

He does get angry,“but he’s loose at the same time. He loves being in the moment, being in the arena, but he’s got an edge to him now. Like, it can go quick. And I think we saw that tonight.”
He doesn’t hunt numbers,”He just puts up numbers because the game comes to him. He plays the game the right way. So I think we need to make sure we’re talking about him that way, because he’s proven it to me. He’s got to continue to prove it. But for me, when we step on the floor, we have the best player in the country, and that’s that’s a big deal.”

Jay Bilas is a former Duke center who played for former Duke Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski from 1982 -1986 playing 127 games averaging 8.4 points 5.4 rebounds, 0.4 assists before drafted 5th round of 1986 15th pick 108th pick overall in the 1986 NBA Draft. Though, Jay Bilas would never set foot on the hardwood for Dallas because he instead he would play professionally in Italy where he was among the leagues top scores in 1987-1988 seasons before playing professionally in Spain for part of the 1989 season before returning to Duke in 1990 to serve as an assistant coach on Krzyzewski’s staff, while also earning his law degree from Duke Law School. While Bilas was an assistant coach under Krzyzewski, the Blue Devils advanced to the NCAA Championship Gem three times, winning back-to-back National Championships in 1991 and 1992.
