Following North Carolina’s 63-61 win over NC State in North Carolina’s state capital North Carolina Head Coach Hubert Davis had this to say about Jalen Washington’s progress about crunch time moments about Ian Jackson’ mentality!

“Well, I think his confidence is building. His assurance out there on the floor, both ends, is growing. We had talked about defensively over the last three or four games, his ability to block and alter shots and rebound the basketball and being able to do it consistently. And then from an offensive standpoint, him being able to finish around the basket, hit a couple mid range shots. I wanted him to hit that 3 at the top of the key, but he stepped up and made some free throws, and it’s his first career double-double. What a time for that to happen here on the road. And another reason that I’m happy is all of them are, but I’m just in particular speaking about J-Wash, like he’s waited his turn and he has such a burning desire to please his teammates, please his coaches. He really wants to do well, and to see him being celebrated in the locker room amongst his teammates, that’s something that I’ll remember for the rest of my life.”Well, I would prefer not to be in those situations. I’m just being honest with you, but it is nice to see different people step up on both ends of the floor, in late game situations, and that’s been a real key for us. Whether it’s J-Wash today who made the game winning basket and the game winning stop, and you talked about Elliot and Ian in the second half was spectacular. Offensively, we just got to do a better job. From a defensive standpoint, they shot 60 percent from the field in the second half, giving them 16 offensive rebounds. That’s just not sustainable, and we can’t live on that. And so the growth for us is to put two halves together defensively and rebounding. Then I feel like we’re in a really good spot.”

Following California being knocked off by Virginia Tech 71-68 Mark Madsen said his team has to make more shots while their opponent can run it down your throat. Not making shots can affect you physiologically. Jeremiah Wilkerson is playing at such a high level. When you have momentum you don’t want a break the momentum. This is ACC Basketball North Carolina is talented California is talented. I have nothing but respect for North Carolina. We’ve struggled with consistency.
