Jim Boeheim is a former Syracuse guard as well as former Syracuse Head Coach!
Jim Boeheim was a guard for Syracuse in 1963-1964 1964-1965 1965-1966 where he played 76 games averaged 9.8 points, 2.3 rebounds per game. Though, Jim Boeheim wasn’t only a player for Syracuse as he was also the Syracuse Head Coach from 1976-2023 where his teams were crowned conference champion 10 times in the regular season 5 times in the tournament. He had a record of 62-34 went to 5 Final Fours won 1 National Championship before announcing his retirement as Syracuse Head Coach on March 8, 2023 by saying As I've said from day one when I started working here, the university hired me, and it's their choice what they want to do," Boeheim said. "I always have the choice of retirement, but it's their decision as to whether I coach or not. It always has been.
"... I've just been lucky to be able to coach this long."
Added Boeheim later: "I gave my retirement speech last week, and nobody picked up on it."
I've been very lucky to be able to coach my college team, to play and then be an assistant coach and then a head coach, never having to leave Syracuse," It's a great university.
