Why Duke Men's Basketball Head Coach Jon Scheyer Should've Been Considered For Atlantic Coast Conference Coach Of The Year
On June 4, 2021 Jon Scheyer was named the 20th Head Coach of Duke Men’s Basketball replacing Duke Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski who retired as Duke Men’s Basketball Head Coach following 2021-2022 season following 42 seasons of being Duke Head Coach .
Before that Jon Scheyer was a Special Assistant for Duke Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski in 2013-2014 before being promoted to Assistant Coach for Duke Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski from 2014-2018 before being promoted to Associate Head Coach for Duke Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski from 2018-2022.
As Jon Scheyer coached inaugural regular season as Duke Head Coach Jon Scheyer led Duke to 23-8 record overall 14-6 in Atlantic Coast Conference as well as an undefeated season inside Cameron Indoor Stadium. (16-0)
Though,
Jon Scheyer who is coaching his inaugural season as Duke Head Coach did it his own way as instead of yelling at his team, referees when a play didn’t go their way he had a more laid approach then former Duke Head Coach now retired Duke Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski . Though, a couple times in the regular season during games Jon Scheyer’s face would get really red because he wasn’t pleased with what was called by referees or what his players were doing on the court . Though, Jon Scheyer had a more laid back approach in going about his coaching in his inaugural regular season as Head Coach in Atlantic Coast Conference it was a success as Duke finished regular season with record of 23-8 overall 14-6 in Atlantic Coast Conference. Because of Duke’s record how Jon Scheyer went about coaching his inaugural Duke team replacing former Duke Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski who retired following 2021-2022 season. With the success Jon Scheyer had coaching his inaugural season as Duke Head Coach I think Duke Head Coach Jon Scheyer should’ve been considered for Atlantic Coast Conference Coach of the Year because he did an outstanding job in regular season replacing former Duke Head Coach in Mike Krzyzewski who won Five national championships (1991, 1992, 2001, 2010, 2015)

Though,
Instead Jeff Capel who is the Head Coach of Pittsburgh was named Atlantic Coast Conference Coach Of The Year as Jeff Capel who is in his fifth season at Pitt, guided Pittsburgh to a 21-10 record overall and a 14-6 record in Atlantic Coast Conference as Pittsburgh who was picked to finish 14th in the ACC in preseason, held first place in the conference standings throughout much of the regular season and finished just one game out of the top spot. Pitt made its first appearances in the AP and USA Today Coaches Polls since January of 2016. The former Duke player becomes Pitt’s first ACC Coach of the Year since the Panthers joined the conference prior to the 2013-14 season.
