Where?
Charlottesville!
Why?
Because on Friday Head Coach Jon Scheyer provided this update on Dariq Whitehead. He’s right there . I don’t want to say whether if it’s going to happen or not. We want him to feel comfortable and we need to huddle up with him and our our staff and our medical team today and tomorrow to get a better feel.

As a team as Duke sustained 81-59 loss to 19th ranked Miami Monday in Miami Gardens Florida Duke had 21 turnovers.
Following Duke sustaining 81-59 loss to 19th ranked Miami Monday in Miami Gardens Florida Jon Scheyer had this to say for his opening statement. On what he saw after 21 turnovers, missed close shots. On what he thinks about playing on the road in Atlantic Coast Conference play. On how tough it is to reset after North Carolina game, travel and then play against a tough Miami team. On what stood out to him about Miami.
So first of all, congratulations to Miami. There’s a reason they haven’t lost here at home. They’re really good. They obviously had it clicking on all cylinders right away. And for us, we had a different look. Even the games, we’ve lost games on the road, we’ve been right there. Playing at Clemson, at Virginia Tech. We win the last one at Georgia Tech. And for us, it wasn’t the same level ofcompeting, and the same look. And so that’s on me, on our guys, on our team. It’s disappointing, not okay with it. Not taking any credit away from them. They won; they beat us. No excuses. No excuses on our end. We’ll figure out where to go and how to improve from here. But disappointing for me.” On what he saw on offense after 21 turnovers, missed close shots. It starts with the turnovers, right? If you give any team, but a team as good as Miami, 21 turnovers and just layups and dunks in transition, it’s going to be a heck of a night for you. And some of them they were aggressive and got in the passing lanes, other times we just lost the ball. I mean literally lost the ball. And that’s going to make it really difficult. And then you add in the offensive rebounds, second-chance points – we’ve been a team that’s protected our paint. And those are the two things against these guys you have to do really well. And obviously we didn’t execute that. On what he thinks has been the challenge about playing on the road in conference play. “I don’t know. I mean, for us, end of the day, you’re playing ball no matter where you are. If it’s neutral, road, home. Do I think the Cameron Crazies and Cameron Indoor Stadium helps us? Absolutely. It’s the best place to play college basketball. But for us, throughout my time here, we go on the road and we love it. There’s the white-out here tonight and that’s what it should be. That’s what it is. And so for us, you do it by competing, you do it by being really together. The start that we got off to, we were trying to get it all back at once. And it’s not going to go against a team like them. You can’t get it back at once. You have to really work hard. And then look, for us, you miss a lot of bunnies and they made all of theirs. Tip your hat to them for some of those, but that’s on us with the focus you need to have. Especially on a quick turnaround.“It’s tough. It’s not easy. But it’s what you have to do. And end of the day, they played Saturday too. And so, there’s no excuses. That’s part of playing in the ACC. That’s part of playing big-time college basketball. If we’re able to, we have to earn our way there, and we have many games to win and to go, but if you have a chance to play in March, you’re playing a Thursday-Saturday game. You’re playing a Friday-Sunday game. So it’s part of growing up and learning how to prepare the same way – no matter who you’re playing, no matter where the game is at. And that’s what this game was all about. It wasn’t about as much about executing. To me it was about the focus, the fight, the energy. To come out against a really good team, we have two road games this week against two of the best teams in our league. It’s a great opportunity. But you have to come out at the same level no matter where you are.“Just how ready to play they were. They’re explosive. You can talk about their lack of size, they’re strong. They’re experienced. They really know how to play. They play both ends of the ball and offensively, they spread you out. They can hurt you from every position. And they know who they are. They’ve been in a lot of games together but they’ve been in a lot of games with the experience they have in college. We knew it was going to be a tough game, no matter what, but you have to take care of the ball and protect our paint.
Though,
Jon Scheyer wasn’t the only from Duke to share his thoughts about Duke’s 81-59 loss as Duke players in junior guard Jeremy Roach, freshman forward Kyle Filipowski did as well. Jeremy Roach shared his thoughts on Miami’s energy impacting the game. On how he felt early in the game with slow offensive start . On the difference how he feels off the court tonight compared to after North Carolina win. “I mean, we had 21 turnovers. That was pretty much, that’s the game right there. If you give the ball away 21 times, the other team is probably going to win.“We’ve just got to be more together. When we get down, we can’t just go one-on-one, we can’t play hero ball, we’ve got to move it. Play inside out and just do what we have been all season. Obviously, Miami did a good job of making it tough for us, but we put that on ourselves for sure.”“Just next game. We can’t harp on this game, we can’t harp on what we did on Saturday. We’ve got to just get back to work this week and take care of UVA on Saturday.”
Freshman forward Kyle Filipowski shared his thoughts on trying to overcome the quick start by Miami at the beginning of the game. On lack of toughness on offense. On the difference how feels walking off the court tonight compared after North Carolina win.
think they just came out, punched us in the mouth first and we didn’t really respond. I mean, granted, they are a good team, but they did nothing special today to make us play how poorly we did. That was kind of just ourselves and our attitude and our mindset going into the game. And we just didn’t really try and fight back.”We were just careless with the ball. I don’t think we were really playing selfish on offense today. I just think we didn’t take care of the ball like we normally should have. Just a lot of letting it slip by our hands, things like that. Careless passes. And it wasn’t really our offense. It was just individually; we weren’t taking care of the ball.“Yeah, I mean, conference play is real, man. Things can just flip the next day and the next game is going to be a real character test. Because they’re the best team in our conference right now, we’re going on the road to them, so we can’t repeat what we just did tonight. We’ve got to get our stuff together and stay focused because we can make happen what exactly happened to us. We can be on the other side of that, we’ve just got to stay focused and gameplan on what’s coming up next.
