“Well, that was a big-time game. Big time ACC road win for us. We knew coming in, one, off the game that we had Wednesday night, we learned a lot. Also, knowing Boston College, they’re a really good team in general but especially at home. This is the first time they’ve lost an ACC game here. A lot of respect for them. For us to be in an end-of-game situation like that, I thought we grew up a lot. And [Mark Mitchell] is a winner. He’s made some big time plays down the stretch. Blocks, his drive, and he’s not the only one but really proud of what he did and proud of our team to figure out a way to win. That’s what it’s all about.”

“[Boston College] has never been a pushover. We’ve always had a hard time playing here, I remember, we even told our team specifically a few years where, sometimes the game can get away from you at Cameron. And that happened earlier this year versus us. That happened a couple other years. And you come here, and it’s a dogfight. So, I’m notsurprised by any of this. They’re asstrong of a team as you can play in the ACC. They have great positionalsize at the guard positions, they’re deep, obviously getting [Quinten] Post back is a difference maker for them. I mean, he’s bigger than anybody that we have, and he’s really good. To play through the physicality, playing on somebody else’s home court, it was a big step for us in that regard.“I think for us, it was, it’s important to have some different pitches. We’re a man-to-man team, that’s what we want to play, but depending on the opponent and the swing of the game, just to have a different defense, and this game it was our 2-3 zone but it can be other defense as well, just be able to have a different punch. A different pitch. I thought our guys did a good job, it was pretty hectic at the end, but just being able to react. Going man the last couple of possession, they were starting to get a rhythm against our zone. So, proud of how we made it work.”“It definitely did. We have to execute better. I thought their three-quarter court [press] slowed us down a little bit too much. Still want usto play aggressive, there’sstill plenty of time left in the game. And just get organized. That group, I don’t think so, that group has never started [together]. And the main group that was in at the end, not only have they not played many minutes together, we haven’t played on the road, for sure with these guys. I thought they did a good job of communicating. Ryan [Young] gives us a lot of poise. He didn’t score like he normally does, but to have five assists and no turnovers. Give them credit for the switch, the zone really took us out of our rhythm. We need to do a better job. We’ll see that more.”First of all, those guys, I thought, really stepped up. It’s not like they played a perfect game or whatever, but that’s not what we expect. I thought Tyrese [Proctor] was aggressive. Jaylen [Blakes] is going to be a key guy for us, no matter what. And we need Jeremy to get well. If that means it’s a week, if that means it’s two weeks, whatever time that means. I would be shocked if he plays the next game but we’re not ruling him out yet for that.”

Not everything was going our way, but I think we just tried to fight, really. Getting offensive rebounds, that’s just pure fight, pure will. And that won us the game, and stepping up and hitting those free throws was a big thing by Flip (Kyle Filipowski). I think we grew up in the last 45 seconds. It was our first time in that situation, I think we’re just going to keep learning from that each and every game and just keep trying to grow.”“You know, Wednesday wasn’t our best performance, obviously. I think we just wanted to prove that we come into somewhere that’s not Cameron, play a good team, and just win. We have a bad loss, you want to get that taste out of your mouth, and I think that’s why you see us just fighting today trying to get a win.”“I think we just tried to keep our composure. That’s really what it was. Not getting out of control, getting crazy, be steady and weather the storm.”It was definitely physical. Both times it left his hand, I was like ‘that’s good’. Kyle’s one of the best free throw shooters on the team, so I had full confidence that he was going to step up and knock the shots down.”“I think it gives us confidence. We’ve played at Wake, we’ve played at NC State, it was very similar. But I think it just gives us confidence. I think each game, as we play in these environments where not everything is on our side, I think we just learn how to be composed and not let it get to us.

Freshman center Kyle Filipowski had this to say for his Opening Statement on what Jon Scheyer said to the team at halftime “I think a big thing was just turnovers in the first half for us. [Reducing the turnovers] gave us a lot more shot attempts in the second half. And also, just our defense – we let up around 40 points in the first half. That wasn’t really our type of defense. I don’t know how [many points] we let up in the second half, but it wasn’t nearly as much. That also turned into offense for us. We were all on the same page tonight and it was a really good win overall.” “We’ve just got to build off this now. We know how great of a team we can be. We know we still have a lot better things to do as well, like take care of the ball a little better, and things like that. This is a just a little sneak peak of the potential we have and how good all of us can be.”

Freshman guard Tyrese Proctor had this to say for his opening statement on the play of the Duke freshman tonight.

Especially with Jeremy [Roach] being out, on court I’ve got to be the leader – I’m playing point guard. He’sstill impacting us off the court, grabbing guys through little bits of the game and just talking to us. But when I’m on the floor, I’m going to be the most vocal to everyone and just try to get everyone on the same page. The main message I was giving to them was don’t give up and keep fighting.

“Everyone’s saying we’re all soft and all young, but we don’t let that slide and we wanted to come out and prove everyone a point – that we can hang with everyone and we can play the way we want to play. Everyone around the country’stalking about our age and how young we are, [teams] trying to out-tough us and be more physical with us, but we hear that and we just take it on and use it to build confidence. We came out and wanted to prove a point and I thought we did.” “It wascrazy. We just fed off the Crazies and the crowd tonight. It was a great atmosphere and I’m happy we got the win.”

Freshman Dariq Whitehead who unlike his freshman teammates Kyle Filipowski, Tyrese Proctor is a forward had this to say following Duke’s come back win over Pittsburgh for his opening statement, when asked if this game felt like a turning point for this Duke team.

“It’s the first day of class, the Crazies came back, so we fed off that energy and it was huge for us. I honestly feel like they changed the game, really.” “We’ve just got to continue to grow in practice, limit the turnovers. I feel like if we just continue to play as a team and just continue to share the ball, then the sky’s the limit for this team.”It should be a turning point for the team. Just us seeing how well we share the ball together, I feel like it should be huge for this team. That should continue down the road.
