As a Special Assistant, Assistant Coach, Associate Head Coach at Duke to now retired Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski Jon Scheyer helped spark the Blue Devils to two ACC championships and the 2010 NCAA title as a player from 2007-10, has helped Duke compile a 219-62 (.779) record, a national championship (2015), two Final Fours (2015, 2022) and two ACC Tournament crowns (2017, 2019) during his time as an assistant or associate head coach.He helped mentor Tyus Jones in Duke’s 2015 national title season, as the Blue Devils finished the year ranked third nationally in adjusted offensive efficiency. Jones was named the Final Four Most Outstanding Player in Indianapolis and was a first-round pick in the 2015 NBA Draft after just one college season.

In 2017, Jon Scheyer helped mold Luke Kennard into a consensus All-American after a breakout sophomore season that saw him rank second in the ACC in scoring and three-point field goal percentage. He also helped develop Frank Jackson into one of the most dynamic young guards in the country during the 2016-17 campaign.

Luke Kennard and Frank Jackson were selected 12th and 31st overall, respectively, in the 2017 NBA Draft.

After Grayson Allen finished his career in 2018 as the 12th-leading scorer in Duke history with 1,996 points, he was drafted in the first round by the Utah Jazz. Allen joined Scheyer as two of just five Blue Devils in history with 1,900 or more points, 400 or more rebounds and 400 or more assists (Grant Hill, Danny Ferry, Johnny Dawkins).

The 2019 campaign saw Tyus’ brother Tre enjoy a breakout year as a freshman by setting the program’s single-season record for assist-to-turnover ratio (3.62), while establishing himself as one of the nation’s premier defensive players. Jones’ classmate, RJ Barrett, finished his remarkable freshman season at Duke as a consensus first-team All-American, the USA Today National Player of the Year, and the overall No. 3 selection in the NBA Draft.

R.J. Barrett broke a myriad of program and ACC records, including both the Duke and conference freshman scoring record with 860 points. His 860 points were surpassed on the program’s single-season scoring list by only J.J. Redick’s 964 points as a senior in 2006. Barrett averaged 22.6 points and was the only major conference player in 2018-19 to score 13+ points in every game of the season.

Under Jon Scheyer’s guidance, Tre Jones parlayed his phenomenal freshman season into a decorated sophomore campaign that ended with him as the 2020 ACC Player of the Year, the ACC Defensive Player of the Year, and an All-American. After two seasons as the starting point guard, Jones declared for the NBA Draft, leaving Duke as the program’s career record-holder in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.88) and ranking third in assists per game (5.8).

Throughout the 2021-22 season, Jon Scheyer worked closely with ACC Freshman of the Year and consensus second-team All-American Paolo Banchero. He also helped guide second-team All-ACC pick Wendell Moore Jr., into performing as one of the nation's most complete players. Moore capped his season winning the Julius Erving Award as the nation's best small forward.

Paolo Banchero capped his collegiate career as the overall No. 1 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft by the Orlando Magic, one of a record five Blue Devils drafted in 2022, including four in the first round. As a player for Duke for now retired Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski Jon Scheyer was one of the most versatile players in Duke history, concluding his playing career as the only player in school history to record at least 2,000 points, 500 rebounds, 400 assists, 250 three-point field goals and 200 steals. He averaged 14.4 points per game while scoring in double figures 114 times (sixth-most in Duke history) and leading the Blue Devils to a 115-29 (.799) record.

A two-time team captain, Jon Scheyer scored 2,077-career points and still ranks 10th on Duke’s all-time scoring list. He ranks third in Duke history in free throws made (608), fourth in free throw percentage (.861) and three-point field goals made (297) and sixth in free throw attempts (706). He played in 144 consecutive games, tied for the second-longest streak in Duke history.

As a senior in 2010,

Jon Scheyer averaged 18.2 points, 4.9 assists and 1.6 steals per game from the point guard position to spark Duke to a 35-5 record and its fourth national championship. He was a consensus second-team All-American and a first-team All-ACC pick in his final season after starting all 40 contests and scoring in double figures in all but two games on the year.

Jon Scheyer was named MVP of the ACC Tournament as a junior in 2009, averaging 21.7 points and 4.0 rebounds as Duke took home the title.

Opening Statement: “I am really proud of the effort that we had tonight, I thought it was a great response. Delaware really tested us. We knew they had two really good players in [Jameer] Nelson, and in [Jyare] Davis, and the job we did on them, I thought it was terrific overall. They really tested us: six-point game and half. I just loved our defense, our energy, and our effort that we came out with in the second half. Tyrese [Proctor], I thought really got off to a faster start. For him to get 10 rebounds is a big deal. We took better care of the ball tonight, almost two to one in assist to turnovers. Rebounded well, and I was really proud of some of the guys off the bench. Jacob Grandison, what he did coming in the game. He didn't play as much on Tuesday. We talked to our team that may happen at times where, we have some really good players. He [Grandison] didn't put his head down. He's worked really hard for two days. I thought he was just absolutely terrific tonight. I’m really proud of the response and effort from our team.” On Jeremy Roach’s performance: “I just think for Jeremy, it's about the little plays. I thought tonight he really was just making the winning plays. I thought he was overthinking it first, instead of just playing instinctually, taking whatever's there, and leading our team. But, he had great communication with me. I thought he did a really good job of running our team and making others better, but then also looking for his own, which is a tough balance. It's not an easy thing to do. But that play, the charge, which ended up [a foul] as he was in the cylinder, putting his body in the line, and then that offensive rebound. Those little plays that add up to winning. He has to set the tone for us every night with that, and I liked what he did there, especially in the second half coming out from halftime. On Tyrese Proctor’s adjustment to college basketball: “I think for him, it's just adjusting to the windows that are open in college basketball. It's just a different game. I think that's why you've seen him get off to maybe a slower start in the first halves. So tonight, you could just tell pregame he was moving in adifferent way. He's sped up his game; he's worked on that. I thought he was a really determined driver, getting in the pain tonight. And then 10 rebounds. He took a huge charge on [Jameer] Nelson for his third foul. Then, his scoring early and did a good job of sharing and passing early, really set the tone for our team.”

Dariq [Whitehead] did well. He hasn't even had a week of practice under his belt. I spoke to him when we got back from Kansas, and he felt like he was ready to go and try it in the game. We knew there will be some rust, but I think you can see his athleticism, his body, and he's really a smart player. He's very smart. He knows how to move without the ball and play offense. Then the biggest thing for him, is just, I thought he got a little tired and started settling a little bit. He's a really tough matchup when he's attacking the rim, passing, and playmaking from there. I really liked his effort. We were hoping to get him 15 minutes tonight. And we did get him 15 minutes and so happy with that result.”“I think the biggest thing is just the fact that we were solid in the second half. We were pretty spread out there in that first half. Probably a good amount of that's on me, I wanted us to pick up and I think that led to gambling and looking for steals. That's not our defense, we need to be solid, disciplined, and with our size, protecting the paint. Give them credit, they hitsome tough threes in that first half. I thought we did a much better job of being disciplined, controlling the ball, and having an awareness for protecting our rim.

We were only up six, I think, at the half so [we] had to come in [the] second half and just really make an emphasis on my defense. I think we did that as a group and that led to my double-double.” On what Duke saw offensively in the second half that allowed them to increase their lead: “I think we shared the ball a lot better than we did in the first half. I think we shared it early in the first and then it [the ball] started to stick a little bit late in the first. We just came out, everyone had confidence and believed in each other and just kept moving the ball.” On grabbing 10 rebounds: “It was great. My big men were boxing out, I’m just getting their scraps. They’ve been great all year and it’s going to be a huge thing for us moving forwardOn being more aggressive tonight and looking for his shot: “I was just doing what I do. I wasn’t thinking selfishly or anything, it was just kind of a mismatch situation. So, I think that’s why I was a little bit more aggressive.” On his hot start to the season: “I think just coming out right from the beginning and bringing the energy. That gets myself and everyone else going, especially on defense as well. So, I think just playing that defense, that even gets me going – when I get a stop, get a rebound, that gets me excited to now keep the momentum going and let the offense take care of itself.” On getting Dariq Whitehead back: “It was awesome. I’ve known Dariq and been playing with him since fourth grade. So, just being able to play with him again, seeing him do what he does best. It might not have been the best performance but he’s getting there and it’s great to see him back out on the court.”

Give them (Clemson) a lot of a credit,""We got outscored 24-15 in the last two wars…during that time they hit four threes." Then Scott Davenport added that the second half started really well The first 12 minutes of the second half we really executed well," he said, "and when they made their run, it was missed layups on our part. The biggest play of the game was when we missed a wide open three and they had a dunk on the other end. That's a five-point moment and that's tough to overcome on the road against an ACC opponent."
