Waardenburg scored 17 points in the first half, Wong added 15 points and Kameron McGusty had 12 as the Hurricanes shot 58.1% from the field, including 8 of 14 from 3-point range. North Carolina was just 7-of-31 shooting (22.6%) in the half with 10 turnovers.

Wake Forest has won five of six and three in a row, including landmark road wins at Virginia (63-55) and Georgia Tech (80-64), the team's first victories in Charlottesville and Atlanta since 2010 and 2004, respectively. After jumping out to a 14-8 advantage, Virginia Tech went on a 5-0 run with 9:06 left in the first half to increase its lead to 19-8. The Hokies then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 33-31 advantage. Virginia Tech capitalized on eight Boston College turnovers in the period, turning them into 11 points on the other end of the floor.
Boston College proceeded to take a 61-56 lead before Virginia Tech went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Alleyne's three, to even the score at 61 all with 4:23 to go in the contest. Virginia Tech could not turn their rally into a victory, as the Eagles outscored them 7-2 the rest of the way to snap Virginia Tech's two-game win streak.
