Armando Bacot averaged 9.6 points and 8.2 rebounds in 32 games (all starts) • Had the most rebounds by a Tar Heel freshman since Antawn Jamison in 1995-96 • Had 11 double-doubles, second most by a Tar Heel freshman and the most since Jamison’s 13 • Led the team in blocks (36), was second in FG percentage (.469) and rebounding and fourth in scoring • Scored in double figures 16 times with a high of 23 vs. Oregon • Scored 20 or more three times (23 vs. Oregon, 22 vs. Elon and 21 vs. Clemson) • Grabbed 10 or more rebounds 14 times with highs of 16 at home vs. Virginia and 15 vs. Alabama • Made at least 50 percent of his FG attempts in 16 games • Became the third freshman in Carolina history to have three straight double-doubles in points and rebounds, joining Mike O’Koren in 1976-77 and Jamison in 1995-96 (Bacot accomplished that two different times) • Averaged 2.7 offensive rebounds (had 14 in the last three games and grabbed four or more 11 times) • Missed his only game of the season vs. Wake Forest on March 3 after spraining his right ankle at Syracuse on Feb. 29 • Started 32 games, but played less than 10 minutes in three different games due to injuries – played three minutes at UNCW (blow to the head), seven minutes vs. Ohio State (left ankle sprain) and nine minutes at Syracuse (right ankle sprain).
As a sophomore in 2020-2021 Armando Bacot was a Third-team All-ACC • First-team All-ACC Tournament after averaging 16.3 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.7 blocks and 1.3 steals and shooting 65.5 percent from the floor in the three games • Grabbed 18 of his 32 rebounds in the ACC Tourney on the offensive boards • Led the team in scoring (12.3), field goal percentage (.628), rebounding (7.8) and blocks (26) • First Tar Heel to lead in those four categories since Brice Johnson in 2015-16 • Unofficially led ACC in field goal percentage (was eight made field goals shy of qualifying) • Was third in the ACC in offensive rebounding and sixth in rebounding • Had the eighth-highest single-season field goal percentage in UNC history • Led UNC in scoring a team-high 10 times • Led the team in scoring (13.8 ppg) and field goal percentage (.655) in the 18 wins • Scored in double figures a team-high 20 times with a high of 21 at Pittsburgh on 1/26 • UNC went 14-6 in those games • Scored 18, 18, 20, 17, 12 and 15 points (16.7 ppg), made 38 of 58 field goals (.655) and grabbed 31 offensive rebounds in the last six games • Made at least 50 percent of his shots from the floor 23 times • Seven double-doubles and double-figure rebounds in 10 games • Averaged 3.2 offensive rebounds • Five or more offensive boards eight times with a high of eight twice • His 5.58 offensive rebounds per 40 minutes were the most in a season on record by any Tar Heel • Led UNC in plus/minus at plus 121 and second in most games with a positive plus/minus (18) • UNC was 11-5 when he made five or more field goals.
