North Carolina And Florida State Are Matching Up For The Third Time This Season Because They're Matching Up In The Semifinals Of The Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament

During the regular season North Carolina and Florida State matched up twice!

Once in Tallahassee Florida and once in Chapel Hill North Carolina!

Where?

On the hardwood!

In their first match up of the regular season North Carolina lost to Florida State by a score of 82-75!

Where?

Tallahassee Florida!

Why?

North Carolina was within within a point with just over two minutes remaining but missed their next three shots and had a turnover while Gray converted a three-point play and two free throws and Florida State went up seven with 16 seconds remaining. “according to an article by the Associated Press” on goheels.com

While Florida State won the first match up of the season!

Why?

The Seminoles shook off a sluggish start and built their biggest lead of the game of 11 points late in the first half.  The Seminoles led 7-4 at the first media timeout but trailed 14-12 at the second media timeout.  Walker made three free throws after being fouled on a 3-point shot attempt the put the Seminoles up 30-19 at the 6:32 mark of the half.

The Seminoles finished the half well and held a 41-37 lead at the intermission.

Florida State was a perfect 11-of-11 from the free throw line in the first half.  Walker led the team in the first 20 minutes with 14 points while Gray totaled 10 first half points.

In the second half, Walker knocked down another three and Osborne added two more from the bonusphere, as the lead was close with Florida State up 65-62 at the fourth media timeout of the half. The game was close throughout, as the Seminoles led by 11 at most and the Tarheels led by four at most.  Walker ended the afternoon with four triples and continues his run as a consistent scorer for the Seminoles.

Walker, who leads the ACC in free throw shooting percentage, was 5-of-6 from the line against North Carolina. Walker is shooting .920 from the free throw in the first nine games of his senior season.

Florida State held its lead throughout the second half, though North Carolina worked to keep itself in striking distance until the final buzzer.  Twice the Tar Heels took their deficit down to one point, with the Seminoles answering both times on their next possession to increase their lead. “according to an article on seminoles.com”

Then on Saturday February 27, 2021!

North Carolina and Florida State matched up again!

This time on the hardwood in Chapel Hill where North Carolina would win the rematch by a score of 78-70!

Why?

Walker Kessler helped North Carolina comeback to defeat then eleventh ranked Florida State.

How?

The 7-foot-1 freshman scored a season-high 20 points to help North Carolina beat No. 11 Florida State 78-70 on Saturday, a game that saw the Tar Heels rally from 16 down on the way to giving Roy Williams his 900th career win. “according to an article by Aaron Beard of the Associated Press”

And Florida State then also ranked eleventh lost to North Carolina in the rematch on Saturday February 27, 2021!

Why?

Florida State was leading by as many as 16 points in the first half, and was up 41-29 at the break. The Seminoles have led 17 out of 18 games at the half this season. This time in the postseason!

Where?

At the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament in Greensboro North Carolina where North Carolina is the sixth seed and Florida State is the two seed.

What the outcome be of North Carolina and Florida State’s third match up of the season be?

Right now I don’t the answer to that question!

What I do is that the winner of the semifinal game is going to take on Georgia Tech who is a four seed in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament.

Why?

Because their semifinal game with Virginia who was the top seed in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament got canceled.

When?

Today!

Why?

The cancellation follows a positive test, subsequent quarantining, and contact tracing within the Virginia men’s basketball program. The team is adhering to the outlined protocols within the ACC Medical Advisory Group report, which is available on theACC.com (full report). “according to theacc.com”
