Tre Jones, Derryck Thornton Matchup As Duke Heads To Chestnut Hill Massachusetts For Rematch With Boston College

Once again Duke’s current point guard and former point guard will matchup in a game.

This time in a rematch when Duke who is ranked seventh in this weeks AP Top 25 poll and and Tre Jones head to Chestnut Hill Massachusetts where they will take on Derryck Thornton and Boston College on Tuesday night.

Tre Jones is a sophomore at Duke while Derryck Thornton is a graduate student at Boston College. However, He did run the point for Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski for sometime during his college career. That was back during the 2015-16 season when he was freshman. In his one season at Duke Derryck Thronton 

  • Started at point guard in 20 of Duke's 36 games last season and averaged 7.1 points and 2.6 assists per game.

  • The Blue Devils went 15-5 in his 20 starts and he averaged 8.7 points in those games.

  • Scored in double figures seven times, with a season-best of 19 points vs. VCU

  • He had five or more assists four times, with a season-best of seven vs. Virginia Tech

  • Ranked second on the team in total assists (93) and sixth in total points (255) and minutes played (935).

  • His assist total ranked 10th all-time on Duke's freshman list and his 1.58:1 assist to turnover ratio ranks tied for seventh all-time by a Blue Devils' freshman.

  • Had 17 assists and six turnovers in Duke's last five games of the season.

    As for Duke and Boston College’s meeting earlier this season in Durham,

    Duke beat Boston College handily.

    Freshman Matthew Hurt scored 20 of his season-high 25 points before halftime and Tre Jones returned from a foot injury to help second-ranked Duke beat Boston College.

    Hurt made 10 of 16 shots and was 5 of 10 on 3-pointers to lead the Blue Devils, who shot nearly 52% and hit their last five shots of the first half as they blew the game open shortly before the break.     While Boston College suffered a loss earlier in the season to Duke.

    Duke shot 31 of 54 (57.4%) and was 16 of 26 in the second half while holding Syracuse's sharpshooters in check.     Boston College also won their previous game as they edged Duke’s tobacco road rival North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
