NC State Takes Care Of St. Francis Brooklyn In Raleigh

It was all NC State against St. Francis Brooklyn in the opening round of the Barclays Center Classic in North Carolina’s state capital.

The NC State men's basketball team picked up its third consecutive win as it cruised past St. Francis Brooklyn, 95-64, Saturday afternoon inside James T. Valvano Arena at Reynolds Coliseum. After leading by 10 at the break, NC State opened the second half by grabbing five offensive boards and two steals in the first three minutes. The Wolfpack dominated the paint, outscoring St. Francis Brooklyn 60-32 in that category, with 37 of those points coming in the second half. The team weathered through a nearly five-minute field goal drought in the first half by going 6-for-6 from the charity stripe during that span. While NC State won, St. Francis suffered their second straight loss.

The St. Francis College Brooklyn men's basketball team (1-3) was defeated by NC State (3-1) on Saturday afternoon inside James T. Valvano Arena at William Neal Reynolds Coliseum. The Terriers played a strong first half as they pushed the Wolfpack from the opening tip. NC State took a 44-34 lead into the halftime break as St. Francis fought back each time the Wolfpack looked to break away. NC State took control of the game in the second half behind a double-double performance from CJ Bryce (22 points, 11 rebounds). Junior guard Chauncey Hawkins and freshman guard Rob Higgins continued to assert their presence in the backcourt.   • Hawkins led the Terriers in scoring with 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field. It was the fourth game in a row that the guard has scored in double-digits. Additionally, the 5-foot-8 guard pulled down a career-high eight rebounds in 28 minutes of play.

  • Higgins finished the game with 12 points on 5-of-13 shooting from the floor and he knocked down 2-of-6 from three-point range. The guard scored in double-figures for the second-straight game as he was just one-point shy from tying his early season-high. Higgins dished out a team-high three assists in 26 minutes of action.

  • Rohlehr and Krtinic each did all of their scoring in the first half as both players scored six points apiece in the frame. Rohlehr recorded six points and four rebounds (all offensive), while Krtinic added six points and four rebounds of his own.

  • Junior forward Yaradyah Evans totaled five points on 2-of-7 shooting and pulled down a season-high eight rebounds (three offensive) in his fourth-straight start.

  • Freshman guard Trey Quartlebaum scored his first two collegiate points in the game. The guard knocked down a pair of free-throws with four seconds to play in the first half. Quartlebaum scored two points and grabbed a pair of rebounds in 15 minutes of play.
