First Female Assistant Coach In The NBA
Former point guard Becky Hammond who played in the WNBA from 1999-2006 for the New York Liberty and from 2007-2014 she was a member of the San Antonio Silver Stars .
Greg Popivich of the San Antonio Spurs hired her as an assistant. "According to ESPN" he said he hired her because she was in his coaching meetings for an entire year do to injury and because she has a high basketball IQ.
I think it's great that he gave her this chance not just because she's a women but because she has been in the position as a point guard in the WNBA and she can teach and help the spurs point guards improve and get better.
It also makes the San Antonio Spurs unique ! Do you see any other women as assistant coaches in the NBA on the bench during games ?
