Luis Gil Is Returning, Starting, Opposing Alek Manoah As New York, Toronto Play Game Three Of Their Four Game Series Tonight In Bronx New York

Luis Gil has been an amazing addition to New York’s pitching staff when he has had the opportunity and come up from Scranton/ Wilkies -Barre which is the Triple A affiliate to New York!

How amazing?

In his inaugural start for New York he was taking the place of Gerrit Cole!

When?

On Tuesday August 3, 2021!

Why?

Gerrit Cole tested positive for the Coronavirus that in 2021 is still affecting us in the United States and around the world though he was vaccinated.

In Luis Gil’s inaugural start he threw six scoreless innings, allowing four hits and striking out six. Gil relied heavily on his four-seam fastball -- clocked as high as 98.5 mph -- and slider to get quick outs.

In his second start for New York verses Seattle on Sunday August 9, 2021 Luis Gil started his second game for New York!

In that start Luis Gil followed his inaugural scoreless outing with another scoreless outing!

How?

He pitched five shutout innings, allowed two hits and struck out eight batters, though New York returned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following the game.

Because Luis Gil who is a right handed pitcher is returning, starting, opposing Alex Manoah who like him is a right handed pitcher and a a rookie as New York, Toronto play game three of the four game series in Bronx New York!

Earlier this season both Luis Gil, Alek Manoah Both of these rookies had similar outings for their first MLB career starts earlier this year. Both went 6 scoreless innings. Luis gave up 4 hits and had 6 K's while Alek gave up 2 hits and had 7 K's. Both determined kids (23 years old

New York who is a member of the American League East comes into the game with a record of 78-60 and is second in the American League East standings, 9.5 games back of Tampa Bay who is leading the division +0.5 in the Wild Card standings!

Why?

Because they lost their fourth straight game their second straight game to Toronto who like them is a member of the American League East when they lost by a score of 5-1 last night in Bronx New York!

In their fourth straight loss New York lost their ace Gerrit Cole because he left the game in the top of the fourth inning with left hamstring tightness.

Gerrit Cole had to pause a couple of times while talking to the media, obviously upset that the injury came at the wrong time. He is not sure if he will make his next scheduled start against the Mets on Sunday.

Gerrit Cole had this to say about his injury!

“I got through the finish and I maybe overextended the leg or I had a little bit of a cramp or just tightness in there," Cole said. "It was just in a spot where you continue to make pitches … you just keep pulling on it. It’s not really getting worse, but you are only one pitch away, I guess, from making it worse.”

“I'm obviously disappointed about the outcome for today,” Cole said. “But I kind of want to reserve judgement until we see how this thing kind of reacts for the next 24 to 36 hours.

“I guess for my mentality, I just want to make sure I’m good if I’m good, or if I need a few extra days, I need a few extra days. … Unfortunately, I just had to pull the plug in Tuesday’s game.”

Offensively Aaron Judge, Anthony Rizzo and Giancarlo Stanton went a combined 3-for-12 with one RBI.
