Corey Kluber Leaves Game Early With Shoulder Tightness As New York Loses The Opening Game Of The Three Game Series To Toronto In Bronx New York
On Wednesday May 19, 2021 in a 2-0 New York win Corey Kluber threw the first no hitter since David Cone’s perfect game verses the Montreal Expos.
Against who?
Texas!
Where?
Arlington Texas!
Why?
Corey Kluber appeared locked in from the jump, freezing his first two batters of the game for strikeouts. It didn’t matter that Kluber missed his spot badly on both punchouts.
And reel them in he did. His only blatant miss all night came in the form of a four-pitch walk to Charlie Culberson in the third inning, preventing perfection. Otherwise, Kluber carved up the Rangers for nine strikeouts on just 101 pitches. His best and most used pitch was the curveball -- which is tight and firm like a slider -- and it generated seven whiffs on 12 swings (58 percent whiff rate).
Corey Kluber had this to say about his no -hitter verses Texas!
“I’ve never been part of one [or] witnessed one, let alone thrown one,” Kluber said. “So, more than anything, it was a lot of fun to be a part of.”

Corey Kluber had this to say about his early exit!
Kluber said that the injury does not resemble the pain he felt after sustaining a significant shoulder tear last season; instead, he said this felt like more of a precautionary exit.
"As soon as I got the arm going, it felt kind of heavy, not painful or anything," Kluber said. "I tried to throw a few innings in hopes that the adrenaline would get it going. I just wasn't quite able to. I felt like it was compromising my quality of pitches, combined with trying to be smart and not risk injuring something else."
Manager Aaron Boone had this to say about Corey Kluber in his post game press conference!
Corey Kluber checked out well during his in-game exams. The club will attempt to find out more on Wednesday, scheduling Kluber for a series of imaging tests that will include an MRI.
Before Corey Kluber left the game Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a two-run homer in the third off Kluber, snapping a scoreless streak by Yankees starting pitchers at 37 innings -- a streak that began with Kluber’s gem against the Rangers in Arlington last Wednesday. Kluber walked three and struck out five.
