Gerrit Cole Bounced Back, Miguel Andujar, Mike Ford , Gleyber Torres, Rougned Odor Contributed Offensively, Luis Cessa, Justin Wilson Shut Out Chicago White Sox, New York Wins The Series

Gerrit Cole struggled in his start on May 17, 2021!

Where?

Arlington Texas verses Texas!

How?

Gerrit Cole who is a right handed starting pitcher for New York struggled.

Why?

Adolis García and Willie Calhoun homered off Gerrit Cole.

Texas collected three runs in the second inning off Gerrit Cole, with García launching his 11th homer before Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Jose Trevino stroked RBI hits.

Then Adolis Garcia ripped a single on Cole’s 89th pitch and later scored on a double steal that included a throwing error by catcher Kyle Higashioka.

Gerrit Cole had this to say about his start verses Texas I felt that I could certainly keep us in the ballgame and I was shooting to get through six, but I think Aaron had probably seen enough,” Cole said. “We’ll just have to get better.”

While New York’s offense wasn’t much help either on a night when Gerrit Cole struggled!

Why?

Because the New York offense only scored two runs!

When?

In the first inning on Gio Urshela’s single and in the eighth inning Luke Voit

Yesterday, Gerrit Cole bounced back!

Where?

Bronx New York in a 7-0 win over the Chicago White Sox!

How?

He struck out seven Chicago Whitesox batters including that sizzling seventh-inning punchout of Andrew Vaughn. Cole improved to 6-2 with a 1.81 ERA, and his 92 strikeouts are the most of any Yankee through 10 starts of a season, surpassing Al Downing’s 86 strikeouts in 1963.

Unlike in his start in Texas where the New York offense scored only two runs they scored seven runs in Gerrit Cole’s start yesterday!

How?

Miguel Andújar added an RBI double in the seventh, opening a seven-run lead.

Mike Ford launched his third home run, a 447-foot shot that reached the bleachers in right field.

Gleyber Torres who is the starting shortstop for New York hit a two run double in the fourth inning while his teammate Rougned Odor contributed a run -scoring double.

As far as relief pitching went Justin Wilson surrendered a one-out triple to Nick Madrigal in the eighth. Continuing an eventful weekend that featured the Yankees’ first triple play in seven years on Friday and four double plays on Saturday, Urshela fired home on a Tim Anderson grounder to keep the shutout intact.

And in the process New York won the series!

Why?

Because not only did they win yesterday’s game but Friday’s game too!

How?

ordan Montgomery was phenomenal in the first game of the three game series verses the Chicago White Sox.

How phenomenal?

Jordan Montgomery tossed seven dazzling frames, settling for a no-decision as the lefty extended the Bombers’ scoreless streak to 29 consecutive innings.

Gleyber Torres provided the offense for New York!

How?

Gleyber Torres broke a scoreless tie clearing the short right-field porch with an opposite-field home run facing reliever Michael Kopech and produced a walk-off hit .

How?

Gleyber Torres lashed a deciding single into left field, securing a 2-1 victory over the White Sox.

And then New York turned a triple play!

When?

In the ninth inning as closer Aroldis Chapman appeared in danger of permitting his first earned run of the season.

Aroldis Chapman issued a leadoff walk to Yermín Mercedes and committed an error fielding a sacrifice-bunt attempt, with pinch-runner Billy Hamilton advancing to second base as Leury García reached safely.

Urshela’s quick thinking helped turn three, reacting instinctively on Andrew Vaughn’s hard grounder to the left side of the infield. Urshela gloved the ball, stepped on third and fired to Rougned Odor at second base. Odor completed the turn with a strike to first baseman Voit.

Today New York is going to go for the sweep of the Chicago White Sox!

Where?

Bronx New York!

Jameson Taillon is going to start for New York.

The right handed pitcher comes into the finale with a record of 1-3 with an earn run average of 5.73.

Why?

Jameson Taillon is looking to find his footing in the early going, having compiled a 5.73 ERA in eight starts this season, with 46 strikeouts against only 10 walks. He has faced the White Sox only once in his career, going 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision in 2018.

Jameson Taillon is going to be opposing Dallas Keuchel who unlike him is a left handed pitcher!

Dallas Keuchel comes into the finale with a record of 3-1 with an earn run average of 4.44.

Why?

The White Sox have scored 13 runs and 16 runs, respectively, in each of Keuchel’s last two starts, which not surprisingly, both ended up as victories. Keuchel is 3-2 with a 2.45 ERA over five career starts at Yankee Stadium.
