The Story Behind The Baseball
I thought this would be a a great story to share and I hope you enjoy it !
In the summer of 2013, I met Katie Petnuch who worked with my mom while I was volunteering at the North Carolina Therapeutic Riding Center that helps children and adults who have physical , mental and emotional disabilities at their all abilities camp. One day I go up to the loft and help her with some things to get ready for an event that the riding center was hosting and of course I have on my Derek Jeter t shirt and then she says to me, You’re a Yankees fan and I say yes I am and then she goes on to say her brother in law is a pitcher for the Yankees which I thought was cool!
On January 17th 2013, my mom comes home and says to me, come here Abigail and I am like for what and she hands me a bag with a note in it! I open the note from Katie and read it and after that I open the gift and it’s a baseball that was signed and used by David Phelps for off –season practice which was unexpected! That ball sits in a case on a table in my room along with her note. Even though he got traded in the off – season to the Miami Marlines for Nathan Eovaldi on December 14th 2014, I still rout for him!
When I do get to watch him on TV it’s most likely against the Washington Nationals. On April 7th 2016 I got to watch him pitch and along with that came something exciting! He pitched four shut innings “According to arizona.com” while leading his team to victory by collecting his first RBI. I was thrilled when I watched the ball go right up the middle for the run to come in.
