Mike Elko who is Duke’s new Head Coach hired Lyle Hemphill as his Associate Head Coach, Safeties Coach at Duke.
Previously Lyle Hemphill was on Dave Clawson’s coaching staff at Wake Forest where he coached five seasons.
During his time at Wake Forest Lyle Hemphill made has made an immediate impact as the defensive coordinator while helping groom safeties for the NFL.
Over the past two seasons, Hemphill has helped turn the defense into one of the best ballhawking groups in the country as Wake Forest is one of just five FBS schools with 13 or more interceptions in 2019 and 2020. In 2017 working primarily with safeties, he helped develop 2018 second-round pick Jessie Bates. The Cincinnati Bengals safety was an All-ACC selection and finished third in program history with 195 interception return yards.

Both Mike Elko , Lyle Hemphill served on the defensive staff together for three seasons at Hofstra University from 2006-08, helping the Pride to a three-year ledger of 13-21 and a ranking of fourth in the nation in pass defense in 2008. Hemphill coached the secondary and special teams units during his time in Hempstead, N.Y.
