The Victory Bell Remained In Chapel Hill Because Duke Lost 7-38 To North Carolina And North Carolina Won 38-7 Over Duke In Chapel Hill
The battle for the Victory Bell began in 1948 with North Carolina earning possession with a 20-0 win in Chapel Hill ... Duke head cheerleader Loring Jones and North Carolina head cheerleader Norman Spear decided on the idea of the Victory Bell ... Jones designed the model while Spear obtained a bell from an old railroad train ... Red Lewis, Duke's business manager for athletics, agreed to find money in the budget to pay for the bell.

Earlier this week,
I read Stephen Wiseman’s article in the news observer about Duke wanting the victory bell back!
Head Coach David Cutcliffe had this to say about the victory bell!
We have the perfect place down there right by our locker room.
I’ve enjoyed that when we’ve had it , it’s got a home, It’s well in sight for our guys right by our training room between our training room and our locker room. And when that space is empty it’s very noticeable.”
Jake Bobo who is a senior wide receiver for Duke had this to say about the victory bell!
You know it’s there,”People outside of the program when they are in the building , the football facility they get to ring it. So when you are in there , you are hearing it . When it’s not there, you defiantly know it there are no bells ringing.
It’s been over a little bit too long in my opinion ,”We’ve got a spot waiting on it. Can’t wait to bring it back”

Yesterday Duke lost 7-38 yesterday to North Carolina
Why?
Duke found itself in a 24-0 hole heading into halftime but were able to break through on its first play from scrimmage after the break. Graduate student quarterback Gunnar Holmberg connected with Calhoun for an 80-yard catch-and-score to pull the Blue Devils to within 24-7 early in the third quarter.
The reception was the 10th longest in program history and the longest since Daniel Jones found T.J. Rahming for an 85-yard score in 2018.
Unfortunately, two final scores the fourth quarter ultimately sealed the win for the home side.

And North Carolina won 38-7!
Why?
Sam Howell threw for 321 yards and three touchdowns and North Carolina topped Duke 38-7 on Saturday, keeping hold of the coveted Victory Bell for a third straight year.
The Tar Heels (3-2, 2-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) jumped ahead with a pair of explosive plays in the first half.
Howell connected with running back Ty Chandler down the sideline for a 75-yard score to open the scoring. Less than two minutes later, Kevin Hester hit Duke's Gunnar Holmberg as he was throwing, causing the ball to flutter out of his hand again Trey Morrison returned the fumble 63 yards for a touchdown.
Allowing the scoop-and-score epitomized a frustrating performance for Duke (3-2, 0-1 ACC). The Blue Devils punted nine times, turned the ball over twice and converted just 2 of 15 third downs.
Duke scored its lone points on an 80-yard catch-and-run by Jalon Calhoun in the third quarter. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for Duke.

Duke is now going to prepare to host Georgia Tech on Saturday in Durham who like them lost their previous Atlantic Coast Conference game on Saturday and is a member of the Coastal Division Of The Atlantic Coast Conference.
The difference?
Georgia Tech lost to Pittsburgh by a score of 52-21!
Where?
Atlanta Georgia!
Why?
Though Georgia Tech quarterback Jeff Sims threw for 359 yards and a pair of touchdowns, Georgia Tech lost to Pittsburgh by a score of 52-21!
Georgia Tech could not overcome two interceptions on its first two possessions, converting just three of its 15 third- and fourth-down attempts or scoring on just two of its four red-zone trips.
The Yellow Jackets dug themselves an early hole when Pitt’s defense intercepted Sims on the Jackets’ first two possessions, the first on a ball tipped at the line of scrimmage and the second when Sims was hit as he was throwing. Pitt needed just seven plays after the first INT to move 48 yards and make it 7-0, then returned the second 33 yards for a touchdown to take a 14-0 lead less than six minutes into the game.
Tech responded with a five-play, 75-yard drive for a touchdown, capped by Sims finding Nate McCollum for a 44-yard touchdown to make it 14-7 barely midway through the opening period, and it appeared as though a shootout was in the making.
However, the combination of Pitt’s prolific offense and the Yellow Jackets’ miscues made it impossible for the Jackets to keep pace and the Panthers took a commanding 42-14 halftime lead.
Sims’ impressive performance and a career-high 125 receiving yards by running back Jahmyr Gibbs were bright spots for the Jackets, who racked up a season-best 432 yards in the defeat.
