In the game The NC State men's basketball team rode a balanced attack to an 80-62 defeat of Wake Forest inside of Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum Saturday afternoon.

With the win, NC State improves to 10-9, 6-8 in the ACC, while Wake Forest falls to 6-11, 3-11 in the ACC.

The win marked the third consecutive ACC road win for NC State. It's the first time since the last two road games of the 2002-03 season and first road game of 2003-04 season that NC State has won three straight ACC road games. The last time, NC State had won three straight ACC road games in the same season was the 2001-02 season.

NC State forced Wake Forest into 19 turnovers and ended the game with a 28-5 in points off turnovers.

Dereon Seabron had a career-day as the redshirt freshman posted career-highs in points (14), rebounds (9) and steals (4) while also tying his career-high in assists with three.

He was one of five Pack players to make it into double figures in scoring. Jericole Hellems had 14 points, D.J. Funderburk had 11 points, Cam Hayes recorded 11 points, and a game-high five assists and Braxton Beverly added 10 points.

Both teams got off to a hot-start offensively and the Demon Deacons took their largest lead of the game at 13-10 on two Ismael Massoud free throws with 13:27 to play in the first half.

NC State would take over from there though as the Pack went on a 23-5 run to take a 33-18 lead on back-to-back Funderburk dunks.

Wake Forest would go on a 9-2 run to cut the deficit to eight at 37-25, but the Pack would let the Demon Deacons get no closer pushing the lead out to 17 before heading to the locker room with a 51-35 advantage.

The 51 points were the most in the first half for NC State this season as the Pack shot 51.5 percent from the field, including 6-of-10 from three-point range and also knocked down 11-of-12 free throw attempts.

In the second half, the Demon Deacons scored six of the first eight points to cut their deficit to 12, but a 7-0 Pack run gave NC State a 60-41 lead with 15:43 to go and effectively slammed the door on any hopes of a Wake Forest comeback.

After State stretched its second-half lead to 10 points on a dunk by DJ Funderburk with 5:49 to play, the Virginia fought back. A Huff trey cut the Pack’s lead to 51-46 with 4:18 left. Funderburk answered with a three-point play, but Hauser followed with the third of his five 3-pointers.

Virginia dug in on defense, and State’s offense broke down. With the shot clock nearing zero, 6-foot-3 Cam Hayes put up a desperation 3-pointer from well beyond the top of key. His shot cleared the outstretched hand of the 7-foot-1 Huff and banked in to make it 57-49 with 3:07 remaining.

“We played good defense,” Hauser said. “They made a tough shot. Hats off to them. There’s not much you can do about that one. It’s just one of those things.”

Hauser led all scorers with 21 points. Junior point guard Kihei Clark finished with 11 points to join Hauser and Huff in double figures. That was about it offensively for the Cavaliers, who shot 37 percent from the floor.

Offense comes and goes, Bennett said, but “defensively you can’t allow the lapses that we have. And that’s been kind of a thing all year. We’ve talked about it, but there’s things that are in our control that we’re letting slip, and unless we fix those it’ll be tough to win.”

For the season, the 6-foot-9 Murphy (10.8 ppg) is Virginia’s third-leading scorer, but he had four points against Duke and two against NC State. “according to an article by Jeff White on virginiasports.com”
